Davis Family Session at Hurricane Shoals Park

There are some families that naturally weave themselves into the story of my business and the Davis family is one of those blessings. I have had the privilege of photographing Alexis and Jake since they were expecting their sweet baby girl and this Christmas session felt extra meaningful. It was the first time I had the joy of meeting little Nora and the first time capturing them as a family of three during the Christmas season.

What made this session even more special is the long history I have with Alexis. We grew up dancing together. She is a couple years older than me so my dance class would wrap while she and her friend, Allie, ate their Chick-N-Run supper prior to their class. I’d sit out there with them hearing all about high school while waiting on my mom to pick me up. It’s the simplest gestures that make a lasting impact and for them to allow me to join in on their conversations made my middle school heart so big. 

Now I get to stand beside her and celebrate these milestones not just as her friend but as her photographer. It is something I will never take for granted. Life has a funny way of circling back in the most beautiful and intentional ways and this morning felt like one of those full circle moments.

We met early that morning at Hurricane Shoals Park. We started in front of the old historic buildings that sit at the front of the park. The textures, the soft colors, and the charm of those structures gave us the most timeless backdrop. From there we wandered down into the tree line right as the sun began to rise. We wrapped up overlooking the shoals. 

I recognize that these family photos are just the beginning of Christmas traditions for their little family. The beginning of memories they will look back on for years.I am so grateful they chose me once again to freeze these memories for them. Sessions like this remind me why I do what I do and why storytelling matters.
