Alyzah’s High School Senior Portraits in Downtown Atlanta
Photographing Alyzah for her senior session felt like closing one chapter and opening another, both for her and for me. I first photographed her when she was in elementary school, back when I was still finding my footing as a photographer. Watching her grow up alongside my business has been such a gift.Because of the love I have for Alyzah and her family, when they asked if I would meet them in Atlanta for her senior session, I did not hesitate for a second. A 3 a.m. wake-up call and a two-hour drive felt like nothing, because she is so completely worth it.
We started her session at Jackson Street Bridge just as the sun rose over the Atlanta skyline, watching the city wake up behind her and provide the perfect backdrop for someone already so driven, accomplished, and full of purpose. From there, we headed into Cabbagetown, where the bold graffiti walls gave her the urban feel she was looking for. We wrapped up at Krog Street Tunnel, with her sisters and mama cheering her on and creating the sweetest moments of laughter along the way. Her session was all things urban, bold, and full of personality. Perfectly curated, perfectly Alyzah.
And what a season this is worth celebrating.
Alyzah is officially the Salutatorian of Jackson High School’s graduating class and the first Black female senior in Jackson High School history to commit to playing women’s flag football at the collegiate level. She will be continuing both her academic and athletic career at LaGrange College, where she also earned a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship through interview and academic achievement. To say she is remarkable would still fall short.
She is strong, confident, disciplined, and an absolute rockstar. Watching her become the young woman she is today has been such a joy and privilege, and I know without a doubt she is going to continue accomplishing amazing things far beyond this season.
Alyzah, thank you for allowing me to document your story for so many years. Watching your village love, support, and pray over you so fiercely is such a testament to the incredible person you are. You are making history. You are breaking barriers. But most importantly, you are doing it all with humility and grace. I cannot wait to see where life takes you next.
