Joe Brown Portrait Session With A Man’s Best Friend

There are some people who become part of your story in a way that feels steady and certain, and for us, Joe has always been one of those people. He is one of my husband’s childhood best friends, and I met him back when Thorne and I were just in the talking stage. Over the years, Joe has been there in some of our biggest moments. Most recently, I will never forget our very first night home with Addie Mae. We had just given her a sponge bath, we had not slept in what felt like an eternity (it was four days), and we were anxious about being on our own. In the middle of that blur, Joe called to check in, to tell us how excited he was for us, and to remind us that he could not wait to meet our little “Cob” (IYKYK). That is who Joe is, laid back, go with the flow, and endlessly thoughtful.

This session was extra special because it marked a new season for him. After living solo for a while, Joe decided it was time to add some warmth and personality to his home, and the perfect way to do that was with photos that captured his life right now. So, we set out with his two best companions, his old man Gage and his spotted sidekick Leo the Dalmatian.

The evening was slow and easy, just like Joe. We wandered around a friend’s property, tossed the frisbee back and forth, laughed at Leo’s boundless energy, and gave Gage plenty of well deserved belly rubs. The sun sank lower and lower as the three of them settled into their rhythm together, and I just kept thinking how much these photos reflect Joe’s heart. Loyal, simple, steady, and always anchored by the things that matter most.

A guy and his dogs, nothing more needed, and yet everything that makes this season so sweet.
